Our Commitments to More Sustainable One to One Events

For nearly 30 years, one simple principle has been part of the DNA of our One to One events: creating the best possible conditions for decision-makers and partners/exhibitors to meet, connect and do business.

Our model gives us direct control over a large part of the event experience — from transport, accommodation and catering to stands, content, meetings and logistics. It also means we are in a strong position to take practical action to reduce our impact. Over the years, we have already changed the way we work: reusing stands, eco-designing event materials, making our catering more sustainable, improving mobility solutions and accessibility, and developing initiatives that promote greater diversity.

Today, we want to go further. We believe that building more sustainable events is a long-term journey, driven by practical action, measurable progress and continuous improvement. This charter reflects both what we are already doing and where we want to go next, with one shared ambition:

Reduce our impact. Engage our ecosystem. Improve with every edition.

1. Eco-designing our events

Our first responsibility is to think about sustainability from the very start — avoiding unnecessary consumption, extending the lifespan of equipment and prioritising reuse wherever possible.

Actions already under way

Across our One to One events:

  • all participation packages include fitted stands designed to be reused from one edition to the next, as well as across other events within the group;
  • furniture and a large proportion of our installations are reusable;
  • we prioritise reusable digital signage;
  • our printed materials, badges and signage mainly use recycled cardboard or paper;
  • we prioritise local suppliers and service providers with recognised sustainability certifications;
  • wherever possible, we follow the 4R principle: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Our ambition: to show, with every edition, that an ambitious event can combine performance, resource efficiency and sustainability by reducing resource consumption and making reuse the priority.

2. Taking action on mobility

Encouraging public transport and lower-carbon travel

Getting several hundred — or even several thousand — participants to and around our events is a major part of our environmental impact.

As organisers, we can influence how participants travel to our destinations and how they get around once they are there.

Actions already under way

We have already introduced a number of measures:

  • covering rail travel costs for decision-makers;
  • offering to cover accommodation the night before the event for decision-makers travelling by train;
  • providing free shuttle services to reduce the number of individual journeys;
  • promoting available public transport options when shuttle services are not the most suitable solution;
  • encouraging exhibitors to travel by train wherever possible and to consolidate logistics and deliveries.

Over time, this should help us better measure the impact of travel and identify the most effective ways to reduce it.

3. Rethinking our approach to catering

Sharing meals and spending time together have always been part of the culture of our One to One events. Lunches, breaks and evening events are important moments for connecting, exchanging ideas and enjoying the One to One experience. Because these moments are organised and managed by our teams, we can make more sustainable choices while carefully managing quantities to reduce food waste.

Actions already under way

We are already making our catering more sustainable by:

  • offering more vegetarian options while reducing the amount of meat served;
  • including local products and specialities, particularly those from the regions hosting our events;
  • asking our caterers to prioritise seasonal produce;
  • reducing the use of bottled water;
  • limiting single-use plastics wherever possible;
  • arranging for surplus food to be collected by charities and non-profit organisations.

Our ambition: to offer more sustainable catering without compromising the quality of the One to One experience.

4. Managing our resources and waste more effectively

Consume less, reuse more, recover resources more effectively Events use energy and inevitably generate waste. Our responsibility is to reduce these impacts wherever we can.

Actions already under way

A number of measures are already in place at our venues:

  • exploring the use of more sustainable carpeting;
  • switching off air conditioning in exhibition halls during build-up and breakdown;
  • using electricity from renewable sources where this is available and guaranteed by the venue;
  • switching off or reducing installations and equipment outside operating hours;
  • providing recycling bins and encouraging exhibitors to adopt more sustainable practices;
  • using reusable equipment and installations.

Our objective is to better understand what we consume so that we can reduce it over time.

5. Promoting diversity, inclusion and accessibility

Making our events inclusive, welcoming and accessible to everyone

Sustainability is about more than reducing an event’s environmental impact. Our events are also designed to foster exchange, visibility and representation within the professional sectors and communities we support.

Actions already under way

We pay particular attention to:

  • gender balance and diversity when selecting speakers, interviewees and committee members;
  • developing content that addresses social issues;
  • ensuring our events are accessible to people with reduced mobility.

We also develop initiatives tailored to the sectors we serve. Through Académie des Assises, an initiative launched by Les Assises de la cybersécurité, for example, we help introduce cybersecurity careers to new audiences and encourage greater diversity in a sector facing a shortage of talent, where women and young people remain under-represented.

Our ambition: to make every event a professional environment where everyone can take part, contribute and be represented.

6. Engaging the entire One to One ecosystem

Because our impact is collective

An organiser cannot transform an event alone. Our impact depends not only on the choices made by our teams, but also on those made by exhibitors, decision-makers, venues, suppliers, caterers, service providers and partners. That is why our approach has to be collective.

Actions already under way

As part of our event charters, our clients and partners/exhibitors are already encouraged to adopt more sustainable practices by:

  • following ethical standards and codes of conduct;
  • using collected data in a responsible manner;
  • reducing or eliminating promotional giveaways when they serve no real purpose;
  • limiting brochures and other printed materials;
  • consolidating deliveries;
  • following waste-sorting guidelines;
  • prioritising rail travel and the shuttle services provided;
  • reducing the use of single-use products.

Our own teams also take these considerations into account throughout the planning and preparation of each event. Our ambition: to move from an approach led by the organiser to one embraced collectively by the entire One to One community.

7. Measuring in order to improve

Turning our commitments into a long-term roadmap

We have already put many initiatives in place.

Our next challenge is to measure their impact more effectively so that we can identify our priorities, track our progress more clearly and guide our approach over the long term.

In line with our commitment to continuous improvement, the One to One portfolio is taking part in the Positive Company® certification process for the second time.

This process helps us structure our commitments, assess our practices and identify new areas for improvement, while involving our stakeholders more closely in our CSR journey.

Ultimately, this data will help us set clear objectives, measure our progress and track our journey from one edition to the next.
